Artist Statement:
I have an auditory processing disorder which hinders most of my ability to understand language. This disorder strengthens me to use my other senses such as touch and sight. I create art to communicate. If I can get my viewer to have a hard time understanding – confused, then for those few minutes they have felt what it is like to be me. Art to me is my first language as it allow me to have a visual conversation with others about how I see the world. I can express how and what without having to say anything. My art represents my journey towards accepting who I am and feeling understood. Painting, drawing and printmaking frame my work. Uniqueness comes from printmaking the most. Printing on used tea bags; giving life to recycled material by turning it into art. I cannot resist to smile through the whole process! The materials help highlight the work I make. Because of the layers I can build, with emotions, and confidence. My work builds up from past, present, and becoming. There is a lot of work I have done, and too much I have yet to. |
